Riot Games has announced the League of Legends Season 2 World Championship. The final event will conclude the next October 13, in Los Angeles. The prize pool for the World Championship and Regional Finals is the biggest payday in eSports history, $3,000,000, and the most lucrative piece of the unprecedented $5,000,000 total prize pool for the entirety of Season 2.
The next phase of the World Championship will be a series of regional championships to determine the twelve teams which will compete in the World Championship at the University of Southern California’s 250,000 square foot arena:
- Mainland China: July 26 – Shanghai, China at China Joy – 2 teams
- Europe: August 16 – Cologne, Germany at Gamescom – 3 teams
- North America: August 31 – Seattle, United States at PAX Prime – 3 teams
- Korea: September 21 – Seoul, Korea at the OGN eSports Stadium – 2 teams
- Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macau: September 22 – Taipei, Taiwan at G1 – 1 team
- Southeast Asia: September – Singapore at Garena Carnival – 1 team
“We’ve already awarded more than $1,000,000 in prize money to the incredible competitors of League of Legends this season,” said Brandon Beck, co-founder and CEO of Riot Games. “It’s been humbling to watch the level of competition and the enthusiasm of the live audiences – it’s something you really have to see in person.”

Gala Networks Europe and Gala-Net have announced that the MMORPG Allods Online is receiving a new content update this May. The update will introduce a host of fixes and tweaks as well as some significant new features, including a new sector of Astral space dedicated to free-for-all treasure hunting and a new mentoring system.
Players will also have a week of exciting in-game events and rewards to look forward to next month as Allods Online celebrates the 1st anniversary of its official launching on May 11th.
Innova has announced today ‘Tauti’, the first content update to Lineage II – Goddess of Destruction. This second chapter of Goddess of Destruction will bring many improvements and fresh content to the game this summer, including competitive enhancements.
The brand new Festival of Chaos zone will tempt and richly reward high-level players with daily ‘last man standing’ player-vs-player events, and new features for clans will be added including bonus-granting flags and pets. Clan leaders will also be able to align their clans with the forces of Darkness or Light, each choice affects the atmosphere of the castle, and brings unique privileges to the entire clan.
An overhauled weapons attributes system will allow players to incorporate both PvE and PvP attributes to their weapons of choice, and many new siege and class-related quests will be included in Tauti, along with skill changes, new talismans, and much more.
“With Tauti, Goddess Of Destruction — already the biggest update in the history of Lineage II — gets even bigger and better, and we can’t wait for our players to experience it,” said Marat Steblev, PR Director at Innova. “We will reveal further details in the coming months, but we can already say that with Tauti, leveling up in Lineage II has never been so easy, especially for new players.”
Bigpoint has announced that Battlestar Galactica Online has nearly achieved ten million registered players since the game’s launch. Battlestar Galactica Online is a free-to-play, browser-based space combat MMO that combines high-quality graphics with intense gameplay.
To celebrate its birthday, Bigpoint is hosting a week-long party for all players. Running April 30 through May 6, Humans and Cylons who log-in will reward players with free items and bonuses. All players who log-in to Battlestar Galactica Online every day for the week will be able to collect their prizes. Planetside 2 has revealed new information about a new Nanite Systems vehicle, the Lightning tank. This light weight 75mm tank is available to all three factions, and is designed to take advantage of a war without death, and intel shows it is quick, requires few resources to obtain and only needs a one man crew. The only weakness the tank seems to have is that it cannot survive a direct confrontation against a main battle tank.
- Capable of firing up to six rounds in under three seconds, allowing the driver to quickly adjust their aim after their first shot
- Designed to have a modular turret that can be completely swapped out for other turrets types
- Its “Skyguard” turret is the most effective ground-to-air weapon on the battlefield, as it’s fitted with 40mm cannons with an elevation range of 80 degrees

NetDragon has launched the first expansion of the IPad version of Conquer Online, Invasion of Pirates. In the new expansion, players will have access to explosive new skills with the Pirate class.

Ubisoft has announced the development of a new free-to-play, browser MMOG Silent Hunter Online, inspired by the Silent Hunter submarine simulation series. Silent Hunter Online promises players a realistic, constantly evolving submarine simulation unlike any other.
Silent Hunter Online sees the return of the large array of historically accurate submarines that made the franchise famous, and invites players to experience them online in new ways. At the heart of the game is “the Battle of the Atlantic”, an innovative dynamic campaign in which individual successes impact all other players through asynchronous gameplay.
