New Features and New Map for Shards of War

Shards of War - news

Bigpoint yesterday spoilt players of their F2P sci-fi MOBA Shards of War with an update including a fabulous interactive music system and a brand-new map. The interactive system now reacts to what is happening during combat, adapting what the player hears according to the circumstances.

When players are in a struggle and losing ground, the music score switches to a darker and tenser variation while becoming particularly more motivating and uplifting when the tide is turning. The more towers are destroyed and the lower the energy bar of the opponent headquarter drops, the more upbeat and dynamic the music will grow.

"The music is reacting directly and in numerous variations to what happens in Shards of War," told Bastian Seelbach, Audio Lead at Bigpoint. "This makes the gameplay much more intense and lets the music reflect and push the player actions."

The new Meridian Gate map has been designed to match the branding of 2 corporate rivals. While the ultimate goal to destroy the enemy HQ is still the same, there are also new gameplay mechanics in play: battery drones and the mech suit, both of which are optional objectives. The decision when to tackle them, and what to do once the mech suit is unlocked, will be a major aspect of each team's strategy to attack the enemy base.

Battery drones make an ideal and rewarding target for players, as each destroyed drone delivers a charge, allowing players to enable their team's Mech Suit as soon as 3 charges have been gathered. Piloting the mech suit provides players with new skills and also gives access to a devastating cannon as its primary weapon. Mech suits are able to inflict additional damage on towers as well as to silence and disarm opponent Sentinels.
