We recently checked out a new browser free to play RPG style MMO from company Playata, who have previously brought all us Hero Zero and Operation X. Now their newest title Big Bang Empire has been released and we thought we would give it the once over after previously playing the other two titles. The core of these three games is essentially the same, using the same type of mechanics and features only with a different theme, players create their own character, work on increasing their four main attributes/skills, completing different missions which take both time and resources to complete, acquiring cash, purchasing new accessories and outfits and going head-to-head against other players in PVP automated combat or building up a Guild. Depending on the game how these features are labelled and the context in which they are used is different, with Hero Zero players start out as a wannabe superhero starting out helping old ladies cross the road and working up to fighting villainous masterminds in the big city, Operation X sees players as a European Spy tasked with infiltrating and bringing down various criminal organisations.

In Big Bang Empire players start at the beginning of their journey into joining the adult entertainment industry, yes, Big Bang Empire is about becoming a porn star.

First things first is that as a player you must create your own character, we are able to choose both the gender and a variety of facial features including skin tones and hairstyles, with a half decent array of choices. All the men are the classic ripped bodybuilder physique but you have the choice of making yourself as handsome as a more anatomically correct Ken doll or giving yourself a balding head, mullet or even a classic porn ‘stache. Similarly with the women they all look like they could have walked straight out of a Playboy magazine, leggy and busty you can make your model which as glamorous with huge beehive haircuts or even trashy scruffy looking wannabes with barcode facial tattoos and daddy issues. Preferring to look at a cartoon female for the duration of our review as opposed to an impressively hung dude, which created and named our new rising star "Hellagoodlady".

The content is pretty much identical to Hero Zero and Operation X, on the one hand it’s not a bad thing if players want to play the game but have a specific theme they would sooner play, but it did mean that our review time was pretty arduous as there wasn’t really any new content for us to seek out. Players have four different stats that essentially make them more powerful in combat against both other players and AI for the Fighting Missions, or have them equipped with the necessary credentials for the Skill Missions. Missions take a certain amount of time to complete, typically a few minutes, and then grant players XP, and item rewards and cash.

Cash can be spent in the "Sex Shop" where you are able to buy all manner of outfits and accessories for your model, everything from tank tops, sweaters, miniskirts, high heels, nurses uniforms, French maid outfits, school girl uniform and everything else you can think of. It was with the accessories that we were particularly taken aback with when the likes of nipple piercings and "home-made double dildo" appeared in our shop infantry, as a pretty liberal minded guy that I am it was the source of much a surprise and laughter.

Our next unexpected content was when forming our own Studio (Guild) where you can create your own films, having to complete different tasks such as fighting a number of PVP duels or expending energy a number of times by completing missions, as well as acquiring linen from those missions, these were the prerequisites to producing and releasing a film for your Studio. The surprising element was the random naming of the films, we managed to release some classics as "Dripping Wet Sluts – The Early Years", "Mommies Little Star – The Lost Files" and "Giant Gherkins in the Back of the Taxi".

The humour in the game is pretty immature (albeit mature content) and whilst good for a few cheap laughs players will either feel increasingly creepy or become completely desensitised to the actual game’s theme and forget about all the sex and innuendo. Our biggest criticism really is the combat element that in the game, whether fighting other stars or the fighting missions where you fight off Bouncers, Hollywood Producers, Stalkers and everything else, just didn’t feel appropriate in comparison to Hero Zero and Operation X given the theme. We’re sure given the tone of Big Bang Empire the developers could have perhaps thought of something a little more in keeping with the style.

The actual narrative behind missions isn’t all that bad and the graphics are actually pretty decent, they have a real mature yet comic style to them that highlights both its mature content without taking itself too seriously. For those players looking for a casual game to log into every so often and simply looking to work their way up the leaderboard then there are worse games out there than Big Bang Empire. For us personally, whilst there are quite a few features, the game is pretty repetitive and whilst enjoyable for a time and beating other players is always fun, it does get a little bit samey after a while.
