We're looking at Wargaming's free to play naval MMO shooter World of Warships where players don the captain's chair of their own WW2 battleships and duke it out in strategic objective focused team based ocean battles. There's lots to love about the game, from its level of realism to high fidelity graphics, but it's not without its downfalls; let's check out the Good & Bad in our newest review.

GOOD

Gun Control - We're not talking left-wing democrat politics trying to remove your right to own a hand cannon, no, we mean your controllable turrets aboard your ship. With typically at least half a dozen turrets on deck the mechanics has all turrets slowly move and track your cursor (which controls your main gun) to offer extra fire power, providing the cursor is aimed within their available arc of fire; making positioning of your ship extremely important

Strategic Methodical Pace - Offering some realism World of Warships isn't a typical guns a blazing shooter, instead players will have to strategize how best to approach an opponent, setting ambushes and working as a team and offers a slower more realistic combat pace

Mix of Intense Fights - Whilst planning and slow pace is the name of the game, it's not without its intense firefights when ships all begin to meet up and becomes a mix of long range aerial bombardments, dodging torpedoes, putting out ship fires and watching for kamikaze ships trying to ram you and take you both to the bottom of the briny sea

Wide Choice of Ships - The game has hundreds of collectable ships that come from various nations that dominated the seas in WW2, with various class of ship and some renowned name vessels from the war, as well as this each ship can have their mods and crew fully customized

Wide Selection of Maps - Players have a choice of currently 28 maps to play in the game, a mix of island and land layouts offering different tactics and approaches to combat, covering some different locales around the world

BAD

Map Availability - Although the number of game maps that exist is impressive unfortunately all of the maps are locked to a set ship Tiers range, so players can't always access them or can't necessarily play them with their favourite ship; also fundamentally the maps are all ocean based so after a while they all feel kind of the same anyway...

Forcing Ship Purchases - Pretty much a staple of World of Warships is that in order to advance down the tech tree to unlock new ships, players need to purchase and level up the previous lower tier ships; this forces players to part with their cash and play in ships that they might not actually want or even enjoy

Steeper Learning Curve - Whilst we enjoy higher skill caps on game, and the core mechanics are easy enough to pick up, the game and quality of a player in a team is really made or lost on the much smaller subtleties and nuances of play that aren't as obvious to pick up or easy to master; meaning it can be hard to find a solid team

Exponential Repair Costs - Repair costs are way too high, and get higher the more expensive/higher tier your ships is; come late game every battle players take damage they have to sink a lot of their money into repairing their ship to play again, which means it's hard to get money for things like ammo, upgrades and new ships. It's expensive for premium members but F2P accounts will have a rough time especially.

So those are our thoughts on what is Good & Bad with World of Warships, if we've missed anything out then let us hear about it in the below comments!
