Good and Bad Things About TERA

TERA - Good & Bad headlogo - EN

TERA (The Exiled Realm of Arborea) is a free to play fantasy based MMORPG that has extensive features, housing, crafting, dungeons and PVP and a directional targeting based action combat system. With 10 available classes players can explore a vast open world, head into the most dangerous of locations and fight against the rising evils that threaten the lands of Arborea. Here’s what we think is both the Good & Bad about TERA:

The Good

  • Action Combat - Attacks are all directional, with no tab targeting to cycle between targets, similarly players can dodge out of the way of incoming attacks

  • Big Ass Monsters - Officially named "Big Ass Monsters” (BAMs) aren't just reserved for dungeons and raids, players can these big critters out in wild everywhere!

  • Mounts Galore - There's a ton of different mounts available, from the incredible to the absolutely ridiculous, they come in all shapes and sizes from the many events and store purchases available
Skycastles - Guilds can fight to take control of a handful of Skycastles, huge castles that float... in the sky

  • PvP Servers - The game hosts a PvP server where players above level 11 can declare themselves an outlaw and openly fight other players in the open world

  • Exarchs & Alliances - Players can join one of three Alliances to fight for control of territory and resources, players can even reach the position of Exarch or Commander and run these factions

The Bad

  • Race/Gender Locked Classes - Due to developer resources (or lack of of) the team have race/gender locked more recent new classes due to the time it takes to create a class for every race and gender combination

  • Uninspiring Quests - Following too much of a traditional questing formula the game suffers with grind fatigue where it feels like you're doing the same kind of "kill X numbers of creature" quests over and over

  • Generic Crafting - Whilst there is an extra element or specialized resource needed in crafting, it is an otherwise simple and fairly generic system

  • End Game Grind - Not enough to do at end game except running the same 5-Man Dungeons over and over and completing Dailies

  • Costumes & Mounts - Whilst the variation is great for the number of costumes and mounts available, many are a little too much on the silly/cutesy side and don't fit into the world or lore, instead appealing to the types of players
