Good and Bad Things About M&M: Duel of Champions

Might and Magic Duel of Champions - Good & Bad headlogo - EN

Might & Magic: Duel of Champions is a free to play card collecting MMO where players can choose a faction, collect cards, and compete with other players or the challenging AI to gain rank and rewards to further expand their card collection. With a different take on battle mechanics, various game modes and a robust solo Campaign the game is an intriguing alternative in a sea of CCG titles. Here’s what we think is Good & Bad about the game currently:

The Good

  • Easy to Get Started - When you first start the game there are plenty of ways to earn gold and Seals through the campaign mode and players will soon find themselves with an extensive collection of cards (albeit they might not be able to use them all)

  • Different Factions - There are not only multiple Hero cards for each of the factions, but also unique cards that can only be used by them, making faction decks and their main strategy completely different from one another

  • 30 Decks - The deck builder isn't all that bad, and thankfully players can build 30 decks per account, where most games offer a much lower number

  • Lane Mechanics - A cool and unique feature where cards sit in one of four lanes and can only attack enemies in that lane (unless they have unique traits), and can only attack the enemy Champion if they have a unrestricted line of sight

  • Minimal P2W Advantage - Whilst the act of earning more cards is by far easier simply purchasing Seals with cash and buying them, even better cards doesn't always make the best players and some lower level decks can still be quite competitive

The Bad

  • Bugs - Players are constantly faced with a variety of bugs that cause constant game crashes or infinite loading screens essentially making the game completely unplayable

  • Grind vs "P2W" - Acquiring a robust set of cards is extremely easy by paying cash in comparison to getting them simply through playing, getting new cards without stumping up $$$ is extremely difficult

  • Altar of Wishes - You can spend "Wildcards" to buy any card you already own one of, ideal for players creating a deck where they need duplicates, however, Wildcards are gained randomly from opening packs so players that spend $$$ to buy packs are more likely to get them and buy better decks

  • Can't Put Cards in Multiple Decks - Whilst the prospect of having 30 possible decks is a good thing, the problem is that when a card is put into a deck then it is removed from your available cards, so you can't build multiple decks around a single powerful card unless you have duplicates of it.. which is unlikely if it is powerful

  • No Future - As of October 13th 2015 the game has officially announced there will be no future updates, the Developers have been a skeleton crew for a long time, but it's now official that they will only be providing service maintenance but no new content, though apparently "this does not represent the end of the game".... right
