In Cloud Pirates players are the captains of their own aerial pirate ships. Battling it out against other players in in team focused matches across various sky maps, the game allows players to customize their own ships and advance down a tech tree to unlock new options. So let’s now ask a bunch of question to find out if the game is really as free as the developers advertise it as being.
No. Players don’t have to purchase the game.
No (but...) – -10%. Players can purchase an optional “Premium” account upgrade, which provides boosts to gold and EXP gain.

Yes – -5%. Players are able to purchase Rubies as the main premium currency which can then be used to buy a wide variety of other benefits and upgrades.
Yes – -10%. With Rubies players can buy treasure chests for rare items, buy ship cosmetics, or even exchange their Rubies converting it into EXP and Gold. With this EXP and Gold players are then able to buy various ship modifications to make their ship more powerful. On the ship tech tree there’s also Premium ships that can only be purchased with Rubies that are improved version of their free to play counterparts.
Yes – -5%. The UI cannot be customized.
No – -15%. All classes of ships are available through the tech tree, but not all ships can be accessed for free as some are Premium only purchases.
No. There aren’t any restrictions on these types of features for free accounts.

Yes – +10%. The game is a very enjoyable game and the upgrades on ships that can be purchased with premium currency offer an advantage but skill with the game will still come out on top. Outside of the Premium ships all content can be gained for free, it simply takes longer, but at the top end competitive players all have the potential of equipping their ships with the same game, it’s just a matter of being able to get it faster.
