Black Desert at Gamescom

Black Desert - Exclusive - EN

Gamescom offered the opportunity to have a short meeting with the PR people for Pearl Abyss, the Korean studio developing the gorgeous MMORPG Black Desert, which we were able to try out several months ago. W managed to get a little update on the game’s currently state.

The MMO is preparing for its third, and probably final, closed beta phase which is scheduled for mid-September, trying to iron out some of the issues they became aware of thanks to earlier beta feedback.

One of the primary issues the game seemed to face was the confusion with the UI and players getting lost, which has been changed already for the next testing. There are also some problems with PvP and general PKing that it is a bit unfriendly to players which they are looking at. Little tweaks have been added in, such as the ability to now swim in water (as opposed to dying), the majority of which have been driven by the community and their feedback.

Black Desert is scheduled for release in Korea at the end of the year, with plans are to get the game published by the end of 2015/ beginning of 2016, but that is an extremely soft launch date that will firm up closer to the time. The next launch is planned when the game will be localised for Japan, Russia and finally the European and North American market. And while feedback from the western gaming community has guided the game slightly, we can unlikely expect to see any major changes to the hardcore mechanics of the Korean published game.
