Best Upcoming Free-to-Play MMOs in 2015

Anticipated MMOs 2015 - Article headlogo - EN

Here's a heads up of the most anticipated F2P MMO's we're expecting to see in 2015, covering a wide spectrum of genres many of these games are in different stages of development and testing, everything from early alpha to open beta testing. Regardless we absolutely can't wait to get our hands on the final releases.

EverQuest Next

Starting off with Daybreak Game (formerly SOE), which has two titles we're looking forward to: EverQuest Next and Landmark with each game standing alone as its own title. EverQuest Next is the MMORPG with all the new bells and whistles of dynamic battles, destructible environments and communal city construction, whereas Landmark is more of a Minecraft style sandbox where players gather resources and build structures on their own private property using really powerful tools. That said there is symbiosis between two where if players can make impressive enough structures and areas in Landmark then the developers may transfer them directly into EverQuest Next as a permanent terrain/building feature.

Daybreak Game isn't messing around this year and will also hopefully see release of their zombie survival MMO H1Z1, currently in early Alpha the game throws players into the middle of an abandoned wilderness with a number of more rule towns and locations that can be explored. Of course this land is a zombie infested nightmare, but the worst threat is that other players as users can pick up weapons or even craft their own using the extensive crafting tools. Band together and constructs your own safe havens from the zombie horde, but be careful who you trust!

Albion Online

Whilst not quite the same Albion Online, also on our list, will also heavily feature on players crafting their own gear, homes and even towns where players pick up abilities based on their equipment with the game also being heavily PVP focused.

Echo of Soul

Hit shaping up to be a big year for Korean MMORPGs with the potential release of Echo of Soul, Lost Ark, Black Desert Online, Blade and Soul, Tree of Savior and Bless. Looking over them they all promise pretty amazing graphics following along a fantasy based theme there’s big, beautiful environments, huge PvE opportunities and for most of them a mixed bag of PvP. Stepping away from the norm slightly are both Lost Ark and Tree of Savior; Lost Ark seems more like an MMORPG version of a top down action RPG like Diablo whereas Echo of Soul really feels like a traditional old school RPG in both look, style and gameplay quality. Blade and Soul steps away from the standard fantasy theme and is focusing on the wuxia martial arts style MMORPG that have begun to grow in popularity in the western market.

Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade

Away from MMORPGs we have to give a nod of the head to Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade, set in the WH40K universe players will battle it out in third person combat in a battle for territory as the key factions from the lore clash on the battlefield. This game currently has "massive potential" but with a small team over at developers BEhaviour we're hoping that they can deliver on the hype.

Total War Arena

War once again but instead of controlling a single unit players will be able to control multiple squads in Total War Arena from Creative Assembly, a massive step down from the entire armies you can lead in the single player (with multiplayer options) Total War games. With more fast paced combat and the necessity of team based play we're actually looking forward to seeing a game where players have to stick to the role they’ve chosen and master it to the best of their ability.

World of Warships

From leading troops on the ground to controlling your own vehicles, we'll soon see the third game in the "World of... " series from developers Wargaming, World of Warships soon following sister titles World of Tanks and World of Warplanes. In this strategy focused shooter MMO players will be in control of their very own battleships! In comparison to the other games the PvP is a lot more methodical, but with what we’ve seen and played it still has that action packed quality about it.

Armored Warfare

Secondly, and perhaps more a rival to World of Tanks, is Armored Warfare, a modern day tank shooter developed with CryEngine3 by Obsidian Entertainment it looks to be an amazing and beautifully design game.

Skyforge

As well as Armored Warfare the developers Obsidian have also made a combined effort to develop Skyforge, which transports us to a sci-fantasy MMORPG world where we'll get the chance to step into the shoes of a newly created immortal. In the game gods oversee individual planets and offer them protection, when the human God disappears suddenly becomes a battle for territory as rival gods and their followers look to claim the planet for themselves.

World of Speed

Finally, if you're looking for a breather from all the war and violence 2015 has to offer then perhaps keep your eye on World of Speed for some adrenaline pumping racing madness. With simply enormous world map to explore as a complete sandbox players will be able to pimp up their cars, join races and work alongside teammates in exciting bouts where they can fill a variety of different roles in this racing game with a twist.

So that's our collection of MMOs for 2015 that we simply can't wait to see. As ever the comments are for you to let us know what you think we've missed out, so let us hear what you have to say!
