2016 Most Anticipated F2P Games

Anticipated 2016 Article - headlogo - EN

We’re into another new year now and we have to say that looking forward across 2016 we wait with bated breath for the number of fantastic looking games set for release this year; with a range of new MMO, Arena shooters and MOBA and more on the horizon, it’s set to be a great year for free to play gaming and here is just a taster of our Most Anticipated Free to Play Games of 2016:

  • Paladins - Paladins is a new first person team based shooter where players can choose from a variety of fantasy meets sci-fi characters and engage in a fast paces point capture battle where both teams must fight over different point to summon a siege cannon that will then march on the enemies base to destroy their defenses. The game features an in game levelling system where players set up a deck prior to the game to access new talents each time they level up to improve their unique skills and abilities, attributing the game to some MOBA style play.

  • Orcs Must Die! Unchained - Orcs Must Die! Unchained is the long awaited sequel of the franchise and is a third person lane pushing MOBA; with a large cast of characters to choose from the main objective of the game is to assist your own lane minions in their constant march towards the enemy base and into their portal. It’s not quite that easy though! Both teams get to customize the types of minions in their loadout that will march down the lanes, as well as the types of defensive traps that they can place for minions and players alike in specific rooms (of death), as well as customize their own characters with gear to give them extra abilities and utility.

  • Gigantic - Another game that asks the “is it a MOBA?” question is Gigantic, two teams of five battling it out over different maps where they must control certain locations to get perks in battle and try to push into the enemies territory. What awaits players isn’t any type of core structure that they must destroy, oh no, there is a gigantic creature that won’t take too kindly of you trying to kill it, which you’ll need to do to win the game. Once more we see in game talent selection as you level up to customize your character as the game progresses, the game itself culminating in a huge “Showdown” in the middle of the map as both gigantic bosses fight each other!

  • EverQuest Next - No other game on this game has been patiently waited for as EverQuest Next, continuing the legacy of EQ games the developers are really pushing out the boat when it comes to dynamic content, enemies reacting to players decisions such as killing off orcs in an area all the time will stop them spawning, or leaving them to pillage an area will make them more aggressive! Destructable environments and the link with EverQuest Landmark for players to potentially make structures and landmarks that will be imported into the game. There’s so much new content promised with EverQuest Next, but we have to say the 2016 release is more us being hopeful, since the switch from Sony Online Entertainment to Daybreak Games it has been very quiet on the web as to what state the game is in. Fingers crossed!

  • Dreadnought -A fantastic shooter with a difference, Dreadnought sees players controlling huge battleships in this team based “space” shooter (not every battle is in space, but you get the idea). With multiple ship classes ranging from the big tanky dreadnought class to the small and mobile scout class, the game focuses more on slow and steady strategy than the typical fast fighter ship shooters we’re used to playing. With in-depth customization for each ship, intuitive controls and some pretty awesome game modes Dreadnought is one to keep an eye on when it finally gets released.

  • Crossout - Mad Max meets LEGO in this post apocalypse team based vehicle shooter, In Crossout players get to build their own vehicles from all types of scrap metal to make some weird and wonderful contraptions then fight to the death in team based battles. The game uses some detailed physics and damage mechanics where players can shoot out engines, blow out wheels, destroy mounted gun turrets or smash off chainsaws (yeh, pretty cool huh!) as they fight across a wide selection of maps. Play games, earn currency and unlock dozens of different components as you devise and build up your own vehicle of carnage!

  • Atlas Reactor - A strange little MMO that really sits in its own genre, Atlas Reactor is a simultaneous turn based strategy; two teams go up against each other and must out gun/stab/electrify each other to claim victory. The maps are broken up into squares, with the options of taking cover, moving, using special abilities and attacking enemies; all players queue up the action they wish to take and then the game plays them all out at the same time, so the guy who you just threw a grenade at might not be there anymore! High levels of strategy in a futuristic team based MMO that is really going to make some waves when it comes out.

  • Blade & Soul - A cinematic masterpiece, Blade & Soul has the story, graphics and cinematography to back it up, with an awesome storyline, intriguing quests, exciting PVE and optional world faction combat this is one MMORPG that seems to have a whole lot going for it. The game has one of the most detailed and flexible character creation systems ever where you can make a character exactly how you want them to look (we recommend something freakish and hilarious). If you love your themepark style MMORPGs and are into the Wuxia style genre (think Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) then NCSofts newest title is definitely one to check out.

  • First Assault - A team based first person shooter First Assault Online based on the fantastic Manga film and series “Ghost in the Shell”, in the game players can choose to play as some of the key characters from the anime, each with their own skills, and fight across numerous maps, objectives and game modes. The game features a unique system where players are able link up with each other and share their primary class/character skills with the rest of their team, opening up the potential of unique on the fly strategy to out play the enemy team with some weird and wonderful combinations.

  • ASTA - Another fantasy based MMORPG that we’re looking forward to is ASTA from Webzen, a themepark quest orientated game with strong PVE, challenging dungeon content and character customization options. The game excels with its dynamic world events, triggered by a single player anyone within the region can benefit from the quest being completed, but participation yields even greater rewards. With PVP battleground options ranging from a sprawling point capture map to a small death American Football style arena game, combat is a focal point of the game and it holds up well in practice.

  • SkySaga - A Minecraft style block building sandbox MMO, only with fantastic modern 3D graphics, players can choose from a variety of character classes and seek out adventure, leaping through mytical portals to visit new dynamically generated worlds. Players can craft and shape their own home island on their own or with friends and larger communities, go on treasure seeking expeditions, fight enemies and delve into the deepest, darkest and most dangerous of dungeons. Not only all of that but the game actually features PVP, with the Gladiator Guild and battle it out in the Arena, acquire and trade gear and take on some quests.

  • Lawbreakers - Lawbreakers is a futuristic team based shooter with melee combat set after a global event in 2105 known as the Shattering that blew up the moon and has effected the worlds gravity. Players can choose from a variety of characters that have their own unique abilities such as being able to fly with a jetpack, swing around the map on laser beam projected wires like Spider-man, use rocket launchers to blow their opponents to pieces or do classic Quake style rocket jumps. Combat is fast and furious, the different maps have lots of twists on gravity, changing up how gameplay works, but not only that the game looks absolutely glorious… seriously… it looks amazing.

  • Civilization Online - For fans of the Civilization series we imagine they’re watching with anticipation at Civilization Online, but also wariness, the game is a cooperative building MMO taking some core concepts and themes of the Civ games and making a completely unique game. Create your own character in the world and join one of many different competing Empires; players have a variety of roles, they must go through the general routine of researching technologies, constructing buildings, conducting espionage missions and waging war, but all for the larger Empire that they are part of; they are a small cog in a big machine.

So there you have it, that’s our list of what we think will be some of the biggest games to come out over the next few months, what do you think though? Anything we’ve missed out? Which games are you personally looking forward to? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
