Skyforge - Article - EN

As you and we know, player vs. player interaction is one of the most significant MMO features in a MMO. And just due to this, we were curious to find out how it would look like in Skyforge, which counts among the most intriguing up-and-coming games in the near future. My.com was so kind to provide us with pretty interesting details we are now able to share with you.

To begin with, PvP in Skyforge can be divided into 2 categories: Battlegrounds (for small groups or solo play) and Phanteon Wars (large-scale PvPvE battles among guilds). This article, however, is only dedicated to the former, but we promise to soon cover the latter in another article. So, let’s get into details...

First of all, we should mention that Skyforge intents to deliver fair PvP fights. It’s therefore only possible to fight others in designated zones, meaning that ganking other players will nearly be unviable, which won’t be to everyone’s liking though, but developers truly aim for fair combat. And don’t worry about a lack of PvP options – there will be enough for all of us as we’re going to show you.

There will be two different ways for players to reach PvP locations: they may use an Uplink Terminal or the Divine Observatory to select the Battles tab on the list of adventures. While some of the maps will be accessible by everybody straight from the beginning, others will require players to additionally earn Prestige before they become available. The game’s matchmaking will not only take into account the player’s skill and Prestige, but also unlock certain types of player vs. player interaction.

In order to master PvP, Skyforge requires players to be pretty conscious of the strengths and weaknesses of the various classes as well as of combat roles. They will additionally have to be able to control and direct the fight and prepared for facing somebody as skilful as them. They may moreover think about looking for an excellent party before tackling certain locations, which would enable them to devise a strategy and establish a set of tactical manoeuvres. That won’t be an obligation though, as the system will pick a group for those who enter PvP locations on their own.

In Skyforge, players will be rewarded with similar rewards for PvPing as for completing quests. The most active PvPers will additionally receive further perks and exclusive equipment, which grants an advantage in player vs. player fights. In addition to material gains, players will also compete for acclaim and recognition, for the best combatants will make their way to the top of the game’s PvP leaderboards. The fact that there will only be a single server in a region will result in a pretty fierce competition for top ranking.

But let's have a glance at the maps now and elaborate on the different game modes available in beta. Please bear in mind that this list will most likely be up for expansion over time.

- Capture the Flag (CTF)
Two teams with 24 players in total will have a seemingly simple task on huge maps: to get hold of the opponents’ flag and take it to their own team’s home base. Maps will allow for multiple possibilities to reach the opponent base.

- Team Deathmatch (TDM)
Two teams with three players each (formed in advance or randomly picked by matchmaking) will engage in a mode that is all about team combat. The team which wins five rounds and sends all opponents to the ress. point will stand out victorious.

- Free for All (FFA).
In this mode, six solo players fight for being the first who kills ten enemies, the most important feature being that the kill goes to the one who lands the killing blow.

- Control Points (CP)
This mode will be played in a two-level stadium with 16 players divided into two teams. The map will feature control points that players have to take control of in order to earn points. The more control points a team controls, the faster they will earn points.

- Payload (PL)
In this mode, two teams with a total of 16 players compete against one another. While one team is tasked with taking the movable cargo to its destination, the other will try to stop them. If the cargo reaches the checkpoint before the time has run out, the first team will take the victory. The cargo will only move if there is at least one player from the attacking team next to it, otherwise it will move backwards.

As of now, this is all in regards to battlegrounds. Stay tuned as we'll soon come up with further information on the Phanteon Wars. And let’s remind us of the opportunity to activate the INFO button below in case you’re interested in finding out more about Skyforge.
