Firefall: Details on Open World PvP

Firefall - news

Last week, we finally got to know Firefall's official launch date slated for July 29. And today, we are able to provide you with a new video, a few screenshots as well as further information on the game’s Open World PvP.

Mainly intended as end-game content, the Open World PvP takes place in a separate zone known as Broken Peninsula which is closed off from the rest of the shattered future earth. In this area rich in resources, various corporations vie for control, each sponsoring their own ARES teams which players will join to battle for territory control and resources throughout Broken Peninsula.

Players who join an instance will automatically be assigned to one of those teams representing one of the game’s major corporations. Their size and number will depend on the amount of players present in the remnant, with a maximum of up to 20 players for each team and 3 to 10 teams in an area at any given time.

Broken Peninsula contains 6 large outposts and 9 watchtowers, each with its own SIN network, each of which can be captured by any of the participating teams. Once control is gained, players are granted a number of benefits including deployable turrets, repair kits and a variety of weaponised vehicles.

Although capturing outposts is a key part of a successful strategy, the players’ primary goal in Firefall's Open-world PvP is to gather as many resources as possible. However, resource collection in Broken Peninsula works somewhat differently, as gathered resources are not automatically credited to players but stored inside the base instead. This means that a team that takes over a base from their rivals before those are able to successfully transfer their resources will loot the entire amount that is still stored in the base.

However, competing players are not the only opposition in Broken Peninsula, a far greater threat are the Chosen. They are aware of the area’s value and know that the Accord is unable to properly secure it. They therefore will do anything in their might to prevent humans from transporting resources back to New Eden, dropping in to attack bases or thumpers in the area. On occasion, players may even run into Chosen Incursions or Death Squads.
