Exclusive interview about the MMORPG TERA with its Community Manager, Lucile Le Merle

Take a look this exclusive interview about TERA, with Lucile Le Merle the Community Manager for TERA Europe at Frogster.
Thanks for giving us the opportunity to interview you about Tera.

I’m really happy to be able to tell you more about the amazing world of TERA. This is an exciting time and every day offers new challenges and adventures.

First of all, could you introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Lucile Le Merle and I’m Community Manager for TERA Europe at Frogster. I’ve been working in the games industry for the past 5 years and joined Frogster in 2010.

How would you describe Tera to someone who has never heard about it before?

TERA is different. It takes the fighting beyond the well-known monotony of most of the MMOs out there. TERA gives players a completely new gaming experience with enhanced aiming, dodging, and tactical timing to create intense and rewarding combat. Unlike other MMOs, you can use your gamepad or keyboard and mouse to control the action like never before. With all the depth you expect from a traditional MMO, plus the intense gratification of action combat, TERA changes all the rules.

Could you explain us the character’s progression system? How do players level in Tera?

By offering many great quests and a fascinating story line, TERA has more than enough for players to fight their way up to the max level. Besides the normal quests, TERA provides stunning in-game cinematics which follow the story of the attack of the Argons. In addition to the demanding dungeons with normal and hard modes, a reputation system with different factions and daily quests, there is a lot to do before you reach the max level. And that’s not all: the political system, PvPing, and the nexus system are just some of the end game content players will be able to experience.

Could you give us some details about the action combat system featured in Tera?

Players need to aim with a crosshair in order to hit the enemy, like in most 3rd person action-based games. This means as an archer or sorcerer you’ll need to be in range, then aim and evade in the correct order to be successful. The one tip every TERA player needs to keep in mind is that their very survival depends on not standing still. This is due to the fearsome enemy AI which enhances different monsters to have different attack patterns. But players are not helpless. Because of the physical collision detections, players can use all their might to block enemies and protect the mages and priests in the back.

Could you tell us more about character customization? How will the players be able to make their character unique?

First of all, TERA offers many different options right from the beginning. This includes, for example, the option to adjust facial details, hair colour, accessories and many other features. Besides that, players can dye their armour with many different colours and even create their own guild emblem, or to create a unique colour mix for each part of their character’s armour. Furthermore, players can keep the stats of their newly obtained equipment but still have the option to choose a different skin from an NPC’s item.

What can you tell us about the skills system in Tera?

In TERA, players can learn new skills from respective variety of trainers in exchange for a fee after reaching a certain character level. They can also use glyphs to modify certain skills like reducing cooldowns, increasing their damage or, decreasing their mana cost. Skills can be combined as combo attacks and you can also set certain skills to trigger after others. Additionally, players can use different crystals to modify their equipment for specific purposes, like PvP battles, fighting big monsters, or fighting hordes of smaller monsters, etc.

How does PvP combat work? Will there be a ranking or rewards system? And what is the PVE like?

TERA will offer a variety of battlegrounds and even more great instanced PvP features in the near future as well. The western version of TERA has now introduced a PvP server type which is not available in Japan or Korea for open PvP action. The guild vs. guild system allows battles between guilds. As the PvP system is still work in progress, things may change and more content will be added.

Groups can also fight their way through instanced dungeons which are available in normal and hard mode. Players’ success rates have a direct impact on their reputation. This system also includes different factions and achievements.

Then there is the political system, which will be introduced in the game in the middle of may. Players have the chance to rule as guild leaders over certain areas and are able to declare PvE or PvP in a specific zone, raise or lower the taxes, or set up special NPCs. And you will of course get a befitting mount as the leader of a guild. You can check out the latest information about the political system on the official website.

The Nexus system features raid instances where monsters come at you from all directions. Players who come close to these areas join a public group and have to defend against waves of enemies, which becomes harder and harder to do. As a reward, players receive special points to pay for exclusive armour sets and weapons.

In which regions and in which languages are you planning to launch Tera?

As we are publishing TERA on the European market, we will launch the game in three different language versions: English, German and French.

From your point of view, what makes this game more fun than others?

TERA’s groundbreaking combat system will set a new standard in MMORPGs, offering all of the depth of an MMO with the intensity and gratification of an action game.

TERA’s innovative action combat system allows players to step into a world where their actions, teamwork, and daring combat expertise - not statistics - give them a chance to become true heroes.

The real-time dynamic battle system gives players more control and ensures their constant involvement in the action! No more point-and-click or repetitive cycling through a palette of spells and skills. Rather than locking onto targets automatically, the position of your character and the timing of attacks, blocks, and dodges determine the outcome of each confrontation. As a result, combat is more intuitive, exciting, and realistic.

In TERA, players impact the world directly, dictating the flow of the economy and manoeuvring through a dynamic political system. Players are free to choose their alliances and enemies, rather than being locked into a specific faction based on their character’s race. Teamwork matters more than race or class, as players face off against an array of terrifying foes that threaten their world.

TERA will support game controllers from launch, enabling players to take TERA to their living room for a console experience on a media PC, or use the keyboard and mouse at their desktop PC for a more traditional MMO experience.

Thank you for your time.

You’re welcome!
