Driving Fast at Gamescom 2014

World of Speed - Exclusive - EN

At Gamescom 2014, we had an meeting with My.com and Slightly Mad Studios to put our hands on World of Speed, a racing game with unique features in which it's not all about who is the first to cross the finish line. Although there are still some things to be done, the game already is in a completely playable state.

Arriving at the WoS both, we first of all got a quick presentation of what the game is about, which we really appreciated as it significantly differs from most of its competitors in the racing game genre. Still to make sure we fully understood, they prepared a race for us.

We were split into 4 seats, 2 for the red team and the other 2 for the blue one. The race was supposed to introduce us to the team mode, which is the game’s main feature as well as its main difference in comparison to other racing MMOs. So we went on a race to learn about to the overall design and details of that game mode.

One of the devs sat right next to us and guided us through the first race. Pointing on the user interface, he explained how players are able to check their current progression on different things they can do throughout the races, e.g. following the best course line that is drawn onto the track.

Right after finishing our first test race, we went straight into the actual race while the developers were keeping the scores of each team to put them into a ranking list. During the second race, we went were hunting points for following the line, then moved to the sliding (drifting) goal and finally even managed to win the race as well, which resulted in a small boost, still the other team was so close we almost lost.

The graphics are realistic and the gameplay is arcade-style, a great match. We used an xbox controller for our test drive which felt really good. So we’re already looking forward to the game’s final version and to playing it with friends.

During Gamescom, team racing was revealed with a video that you can check out right here. And if you’re interested in finding out more about World of Speed, just activate the INFO button below.
